Fluorescent lighting is far superior to old traditional incandescent lighting when it comes to efficiency and long life. Fluorescent lighting is your best energy buy for several reasons:

1.  ENERGY CONSUMPTION - Fluorescent lights use about 1/4 the energy to produce the same amount of light. A 26-watt fluorescent bulb puts out about the same amount of light as a 100-watt incandescent. They save you air conditioning dollars as well. It takes almost 1/3 of a ton of air conditioning capacity to cool or remove the heat generated by 1000 watts of light. That's 10, 100-watt bulbs.

2.  LONG LIFE - Fluorescent bulbs last 8-10 times longer than most light bulbs. Old fashion incandescent bulbs may have an average life from 750 hours to 1500 hours. The average life of a bulb is normally shown on the package. New style fluorescent bulbs could have an average life of 6000-10,000 hours.

So if you hate changing burned out light bulbs and want to be cool with lower electric energy consumption, think fluorescent lighting whenever possible.
